Financial Crimes
The Financial Crimes Unit investigates complex felony fraud and financial crime cases impacting individuals, businesses, and vulnerable populations throughout Washoe County. Detectives assigned to the unit specialize in crimes including identity theft, embezzlement, forgery, financial exploitation of older adults, organized fraud schemes, and continuing criminal enterprises.
Working closely with financial institutions, prosecutors, partner law enforcement agencies, and cyber crime investigators, the unit conducts thorough investigations aimed at identifying offenders, protecting victims, and preventing additional financial harm to the community.
The Financial Crimes Unit is part of the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations/Investigations Division within the Cyber Crimes Section.
