Work Permits

ALL WORK PERMITS & REGISTRATION CARDS ARE PROCESSED BY APPOINTMENT ONLY
Applications must be completed online; upon completion of the application, a link will be provided to schedule your appointment.  Please bring a printed copy of your application with all the required documents to your scheduled appointment. 
 
Applicants for all permits or registration cards must present one of the following types of personal identification at the time of application:
  • Valid driver's license
  • State-issued identification card
  • Current U.S. issued passport

CHILDCARE WORK PERMITS – 
Effective January 3, 2022 the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office will no longer issue Childcare Work Permits.  Please contact Washoe County Human Services or the childcare facility for instructions on the new procedure for childcare background checks.
 
Liquor work permits are regulated by Washoe County Code Chapter 30.
Requirements for those applying for Liquor Work Permits:
  1. All applicants must bring with them an Applicant Authorization Formsigned by the Employer.
  2. All applicants are required to complete an online application that includes a form that allows the Sheriff's Office to inform your employer as to the status of your application.
  3. See Service Charge Schedule for the cost of new, renewal, or replacement work permit.
  4. Fingerprints will be taken at the time of application/renewal for both a state-wide and a national records check.
  5. Applicants are required to have a photograph taken for their work permit card.
Liquor work permits are issued for a period of five years. Convictions of numerous Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol-related offenses may disqualify you from obtaining a work permit.
 
Locksmith permits are regulated by Nevada Revised Statute 655.070 and Washoe County Code Chapter 25.
Requirements for those applying for Locksmith Work Permits:
  1. All applicants must bring with them an Applicant Authorization Form signed by the Employer. Owners must present a current Washoe County Business License.
  2. All applicants are required to complete an online application that includes a form that allows the Sheriff's Office to inform your employer as to the status of your application.

  4. Fingerprints will be taken at the time of application/renewal for both a state-wide and a national records check.

PEDDLER AND SOLICITOR WORK PERMITS - ONLINE APPLICATION & APPLICANT AUTHORIZATION FORM
Peddler and Solicitor work permits are regulated by Washoe County Code Chapter 25. Prior to coming to the Sheriff's Office for a permit, all Solicitors and Peddlers must be approved at the Business License Division located at 1001 E. 9th Street in Reno.
Requirements for those applying for Peddler and Solicitor Work Permits:
  1. All applicants must bring with them an Applicant Authorization Form signed by the Employer. Owners must present a current Washoe County Business License.
  2. All applicants are required to complete an online application that includes a form that allows the Sheriff's Office to inform your employer as to the status of your application.
  3. See Service Charge Schedule for the cost of new, renewal, or replacement work permit.
  4. Fingerprints will be taken at the time of application/renewal for both a state-wide and a national records check.
  5. Applicants are required to have a photograph taken for their work permit card.
Solicitor and Peddler permits are valid for a period not to exceed 5 years.
