Chief Deputy Darrin Rice - Administration

Chief Deputy Rice started with the Washoe County Sheriff's Office in 2000 as a Deputy Sheriff in Detention.  Chief Deputy Rice has experience in all three Bureaus: Administration, Detention, and Operations. He has served in several specialty assignments to include Public Information Officer, District Court, Office of Professional Integrity,  Hostage Negotiation Team, Detention Response Team, Search and Rescue, Extraditions and RAVEN.  He served as the Administrative Captain prior to his appointment to Chief Deputy in 2024.

He has been awarded two Meritorious Unit Citations and a Distinguished Service Medal.

Chief Deputy Rice is a graduate of the 145th Administrative Officer’s Course of the Southern Police Institute and holds a Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Emergency Management.

Chief Deputy Rice enjoys spending time with his family in the Lost Sierra Wilderness, traveling, endurance running and exploring the Nevada backcountry.
