Woman charged with open murder in Highland Ranch shooting

Washoe County Sheriff’s Office detectives yesterday charged Karri Walters, 49, of Sun Valley with murder in the shooting of a man on January 19, 2022.
As previously reported, around 4:00 p.m. yesterday, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputies were called to a residence on the 6900 block of Brahms Drive in the Highland Ranch neighborhood for a reported shooting. When deputies arrived on scene, they located a man with a gunshot wound. That man was transported to a regional hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Detectives arrived on scene a short time later, and determined the man was one of two residents of the involved house. The other resident, 49-year-old Karri Walters, was arrested shortly before midnight on two felony charges – Open Murder and Discharging a Firearm in a Structure or Vehicle in a Prohibited Area.
Detectives say there is no threat to the community, and there are no more outstanding suspects.

The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting the formal death investigation, and will release the victim’s name upon identification and family notifications.
