Sheriff Darin Balaam released the following statement this afternoon:

"The Washoe County Sheriff's Office received notice this afternoon of two positive cases of COVID-19 among inmates in the detention facility. One inmate has since been released and the second inmate is in isolation. At this time, there is reason to suspect the positive cases are a result of internal transmission within the facility.

"Contact tracing is currently being conducted, COVID-19 safety measures including masks are in place and, if necessary or available, more information will be released.

"As I've stated previously, the Sheriff's Office has long-planned and expected that an inmate would test positive within our facility. We are working the procedures and plans we had in place for this situation. We will continue to do so because the health and safety of every one of the Washoe County Sheriff's Office family, as well as the inmates, is my number one priority."

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office is dedicated to preserving a safe and secure community with professionalism, respect, integrity and the highest commitment to equality.
