Washoe County Sheriff's Office receives "Squad of the Year" Award from Nevada's Joining Forces program

Washoe County Sheriff's Office Patrol Staff recently received statewide recognition for dedicating thousands of hours to multi-jurisdictional efforts aimed at making our Nevada's roads safer for drivers, passengers and pedestrians.

During this year's Joining Forces Recognition Conference in October, the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety presented Washoe County Sheriff's Office with the prestigious Joining Forces Squad of the Year award.

"Like most law enforcement agencies, the Washoe County Sheriff's Office was challenged with staffing issues and an overload of work during the last year. But their commitment to the safety of those traveling on Nevada roadways stayed strong," said Program Manager Shelley Fleming with the Nevada Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety.

"Individually and as a squad, their dedication to traffic safety is commendable," she said

In addition, the State Office of Traffic Safety awarded the Washoe County Sheriff's Office an $89,000 grant to fund the Sheriff's Office participation in Joining Forces events during 2013.

The Sheriff's Office will team up with other area jurisdictions to for 11 Joining Forces events between October 2012 and September of 2013.

Joining Forces is a high visibility, multi-jurisdictional program that enforces the traffic laws of designated focus areas such as DUI, distracted driving, seat belts, speed, and pedestrian safety.

The Sheriff's Office reminds the public to make safety top priority, whether you're the driver or passenger in any type of motor vehicle. Motorist should be advised that law enforcement personnel are out enforcing these laws year-round.
