Sex Offender & Crimes Against Children Registration

Under Chapter 179D of the Nevada Revised Statutes, any convicted person who remains within the Washoe County Sheriff's Office jurisdiction for a period of more than 48 hours is required to register with the Sheriff's Office. Additionally, any convicted person, except a nonresident, who is required to register under NRS 179D must report any change of address within 48 hours of moving.

Registration requirements and procedures are governed by by NRS 179D, including: 
  • Initial registration after conviction
  • Notice of duty to register
  • Failure-to-register implications 
  • Procedures upon receiving notification from another jurisdiction or the FBI

Verification Requirements 

Individual registered under NRS 179D.350 - 179D.550 must: 

  • Verify all information contained in their registration
  • Submit a current photograph
  • Have fingerprints taken
  • Follow the verification schedule assigned to their tier level

Identification Requirements 

All registrants must present one of the following forms of valid identification to register:
  • Valid driver's license
  • State-issued identification card
  • Current U.S. issued passport
There is no fee to register locally with the Washoe County Sheriff's Office. 

International Travel Notification

Registrants traveling outside of the United States must notify the jurisdictional law enforcement agency of their residence at least 21 days prior to their intended travel.
