With Governor Steve Sisolak's extension of Phase 2 of the Roadmap to Recovery plan, and the emergency declaration, Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam seeks to clarify the Office's stance on CCW permits.

In line with Directive 009, Section 3 (3/12/2020, amended 4/1/2020), all licenses and permits issued by the State of Nevada or by local jurisdictions that are set to expire during this state of emergency have been extended 90 days either from their current expiration date or 90 days after the state of emergency is lifted, whichever is later if reduced government operations due to the state of emergency makes timely renewal impracticable or impossible.

"It is important for our community's concealed carry permit holders to plan accordingly," said Sheriff Balaam. "With Governor Sisolak's emergency declaration extended to the end of July, current holders of a recently expired permit will not be penalized until after Nevada Day."

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office Administrative Division moved to online application and appointment scheduling. Currently CCW permit renewal appointments are booked through mid-October.

Anyone needing to schedule an appointment just needs to go to the Washoe County Sheriff's Office website. All requests for CCW permits can be found under the Records tab of the website's top menu bar. Community members wanting to apply for or renew a CCW permit must complete the online CCW application, and once submitted will be automatically directed to the online calendar to schedule an appointment.

There are 23,517 active concealed carry permit holders in Washoe County as of June 1, 2020.
