Washoe County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested a 30-year-old Sun Valley man on multiple charges of battery, assault, and child abuse following a shooting incident Tuesday night.

At approximately 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12, deputies responded to a residence on Bozic Lane south of 8th Avenue in Sun Valley on a report of shots fired.

On arrival, deputies were told the suspect, identified as Scott William Petersen, was still inside the house and there were several children inside the house with him. Deputies were able to make contact with the children and remove all but one from the residence. Petersen had locked himself in a bedroom and it was believed one child was still with him.

Deputies were able to talk Petersen into surrendering at approximately 10:45 p.m. The child was unharmed.

After further investigation, deputies learned that Petersen was the suspect in a shooting that had occurred outside the residence earlier that night. The victim, a male adult, was taken to a local hospital and treated for what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

Petersen was booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility on multiple charges, including two charges of Battery with a Deadly Weapon, two charges of Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and six charges of Child Abuse or Neglect.
