The Washoe County Medical Examiner's Office has confirmed the identity of both decedents from Sunday night's double homicide in Sun Valley.
The decedents have been identified as Benjamin Guerrero, age 38, of Sun Valley, and Ruben Torres, age 35, also of Sun Valley. Next of kin notifications have been made.
The Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the incident. As of this writing, no arrests have been made. However, investigators believe there are no outstanding suspects.
Background:
At approximately 10:20 p.m. on Sunday, August 19, 2018, deputies responded to the area of Staci Way and Merritt Court on a report of shots heard in the area. Deputies located two victims, both male adults, at the scene and evidence of multiple shots having been fired.
Investigators believe the two men were involved in a confrontation outside a residence at this location during which shots were exchanged. One man was declared deceased at the scene. The second man was transported to a local hospital where he was also declared deceased.
The Reno Police Department, Sparks Police Department, and Nevada Highway Patrol assisted with the initial response.
This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information that could assist with this investigation is asked to contact the Washoe County Sheriff's Office Detective Division at (775) 328-3320 or Secret Witness at (775) 322-4900.
