The driver of a stolen vehicle accelerated towards a Reno Police Department officer, striking him, during an incident that resulted in an officer involved shooting late Saturday night, according to Washoe County Sheriff's Office detectives leading a regional investigation of the shooting.

The incident began at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2018 when officers with the Reno Police Department responded to the report of a burglary in progress call at the Peckham Plaza Mini-Storage located at 1400 E. Peckham Lane.

While checking the area of the storage units on foot, two Reno Police Department officers encountered a stolen Honda Civic parked behind one of the buildings. The vehicle was occupied by one male subject later identified as Nicolas Sedano, age 21, of Reno.

The officers established contact with Sedano. At that time, Sedano accelerated his vehicle towards an officer at a high rate of speed, striking the officer, and resulting in the officer involved shooting in which both officers fired.

Sedano sustained life-threatening injuries and officers immediately started lifesaving measures at the scene. Sedano was transported to a local hospital where he was declared deceased.

The officer who was struck by Sedano's vehicle did not require treatment. No other civilians or officers were injured.

The Washoe County Regional Officer Involved Shooting Protocol was activated and the Sheriff's Office is the lead agency, working with investigators from the Sparks Police Department, and the Washoe County District Attorney's Office.

Once completed, the investigation will be forwarded to the District Attorney for his review.
