Sheriff's Office updates Incline Village homicide investigation

Washoe County Sheriff's Office detectives continue to investigate a homicide that occurred on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at a residence in the 700 block of Southwood Boulevard in Incline Village.

Earlier this week, the Washoe County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed that they have positively identified the victim as David Rivas-Rodriguez, age 70. Rivas-Rodriguez died as a result of stab wounds according to the Medical Examiner's investigation. Next of kin have been notified.

The victim was the father-in-law of suspect Ismeal Resendiz-Moreno. Resendiz-Moreno is currently being held in the Washoe County Detention Facility on charges related to this incident.

Background:

At approximately 10:00 a.m. on January 23, 2018, Sheriff's Office dispatch received a 911 call from a residence on the 700 block of Southwood Boulevard reporting an injured person inside the residence. When deputies arrived on scene, they were able to secure the residence, locate the victim, and call for medical assistance. The victim was declared deceased at the scene.

The suspect, Resendiz-Moreno, was immediately detained by responding deputies and cooperated with the investigation. He was subsequently arrested on a charge of Battery with a Deadly Weapon and booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility.

After further investigation, Resendiz-Moreno was booked on the murder charge on Wednesday, January 24, 2018.
