Washoe County Sheriff’s Office “Green for Gold” team commits to Shave for the Brave to help fight childhood cancer

For the eighth year in a row, members of the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office staff are shaving their heads as part of Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation’s Annual Shave for the Brave event benefiting St. Baldrick’s Foundation. The event will raise money to support childhood cancer research.

The Sheriff’s Office team name is “Green for Gold” which represents the agency’s GREEN solidarity supporting the GOLD cause for children with cancer. Each year WCSO team members shave their heads to honor some of the family members at the Sheriff’s Office. Children like Mason Wortham who battled cancer and is now cancer free, and Logan Smith who continues to battle cancer.

Due to COVID restrictions, this year’s event will take place in a virtual setting on March 11th.

In order to garner support for this important cause, and to promote others to participate, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Jeffery Clark and Green for Gold Team Captain Deputy Jeff McCaskill will be shaving their heads in advance.

Members of the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office have been long-time supporters of the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation. NNCCF is a 501 (C)(3) nonprofit located in Reno, Nevada that supports northern Nevada children with cancer.

The foundation’s mission is based on the principle that “childhood cancer can be devastating financially and emotionally to children, parents, and siblings. No journey through childhood cancer is the same and NNCCF strives to assist each family with individualized care. Our organization provides support at no cost to families. We also fund research for safe treatment and cures, and advocate for more federal support for childhood cancer research.”
