The Rail Auxiliary Team was created to provide a trained force familiar with rail operations to act as additional eyes and ears for law enforcement and the community. They report suspicious activities as well as any hazards that might interfere with safe railway operation.

The Rail Auxiliary Team is WCSO volunteers who have completed the standard background checks and 18 hours of Community Emergency Response Team or Citizen’s Homeland Security Council training.

Rail Auxiliary Team training is a 16-hour training curriculum consists of classroom training and field exercises and training patrols. The course was created by a group of military and law enforcement professionals and Rail Auxiliary Team volunteers receive continuing education and training on subjects relating to their mission. The Rail Auxiliary Team volunteers complete assigned patrols and work events as requested.

The Rail Auxiliary Team is trained to identify surveillance techniques as well as other law violations on railroad property (trespass, vandalism) and is drilled on non-confrontation/approach and trained on being good witnesses.

For information on how to join the RAT Patrol contact the Citizen Corps Coordinators at 775-328-8727 or 775-328-2866.
