The Washoe County Sheriff's Office reported today that a 41-year-old male inmate has passed away while in custody.
At approximately 2:14p.m. on April 20th, deputies discovered the inmate unresponsive alone in his cell - the inmate was last seen during a regular cell check. Deputies and jail medical staff immediately began lifesaving measures, REMSA and the Reno Fire Department responded. The inmate was declared deceased on scene.
Washoe County Sheriff's Office detectives along with the Washoe County Medical Examiner's Office are conducting an investigation into this incident.
Exact cause of death will be determined by the Washoe County Medical Examiner's Office. Due to HIPAA restrictions, the Sheriff's Office is not able to comment further about the inmate's medical conditions at the time of death.
The name of the decedent will be released following formal identification and family notification by the Medical Examiner's Office.
