Washoe County Sheriff's Office staff donated nearly $50,000 to local good causes during the first two years of the Sheriff's "No Shave" campaign. Now, they're once again putting down the razors and raising charitable funds for a third time.
Sheriff Chuck Allen is relaxing grooming standards for all staff willing to make a monthly charitable donation during the months of September, October, November and December.
In exchange for a monthly charitable donation, male deputies are allowed to grow facial hair outside the normal grooming standard, female deputies are allowed to have relaxed hair standards, and civilians may either take advantage of the relaxed grooming standards or wear jeans or hats.
The Sheriff's Office has chosen a different recipient for each month. The organizations chosen for this campaign are:
September: Northern Nevada Children's Cancer Foundation (Childhood Cancer Awareness Month)
October: Susan G. Komen (Breast Cancer Awareness Month)
November: Renown Men's Health Center (Movember)
December: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada
Based on the support for this effort in past years, Washoe County residents should be prepared to see a great deal more facial hair on the faces of deputies during the coming months.
The Washoe County Sheriff's Office is dedicated to preserving a safe and secure community with professionalism, respect, integrity and the highest commitment to equality. Sheriff Darin Balaam is the 27th person elected to serve as the Sheriff of Washoe County since the Office was created in 1861. The Washoe County Sheriff's Office strives to ensure public safety by building trust and creating partnerships within the diverse communities in which we serve. We will promote the dignity of all people supported by our words and actions through open communication while fostering an environment of professionalism, integrity and mutual respect.
