On January 15, 2018 at approximately 11:52 A.M., the Washoe County Sheriff's Office responded to an off highway vehicle accident on the dirt extension of Chimney Drive in Sun Valley.
A preliminary investigation indicated five juveniles were operating a four seat Yamaha utility vehicle (UTV) eastbound on the dirt portion of Chimney Drive, an area designated for off-highway vehicle use. The 17 year old driver of the UTV attempted a left turn and lost control of the vehicle. The UTV rolled and multiple occupants were ejected including the driver. The driver sustained life threatening injuries as a result of the incident and two other occupants were transported with minor injuries.
The Washoe County Sheriff's Office Major Accident Investigation Team responded to assist patrol units with the on-going investigation.
All of the remaining parties stayed on scene and are cooperating with the investigation. It does not appear drugs and/or alcohol are a factor in the accident.
The Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information about the accident contact Deputy Chad McKinnon at (775)328-3350.
No further information will be released at this time.
