The Washoe County Sheriff's Office is seeking information about a vehicle that was involved in a fire last night north of Nixon. What appear to be human remains were discovered inside the vehicle.
Shortly before midnight on Thursday, July 14, 2016, units from the Pyramid Lake Tribal fire and Police Departments responded to a vehicle fire off State Route 447 about 15 miles north of Nixon. The remains were discovered after the fire was extinguished. Because the vehicle was located within Washoe County's jurisdiction, Sheriff's Office Detectives were notified and are now conducting an investigation.
There is extensive damage to the vehicle, but it is believed to be a domestic, possibly Ford, small to mid-sized sedan of unknown color.
Although the vehicle itself was damaged beyond recognition, investigators noted distinct wheel rims on the vehicle. A photo of wheel rims similar to those found on the burned vehicle is attached to this press release.
Anyone with information that could assist with this investigation is asked to contact the Washoe County Sheriff's Office Detective Division at (775) 328-3320 or Secret Witness at (775) 322-4900.
