Statistics from the Washoe County Sheriff's Office participation in a recent Joining Forces "Click it or Ticket" traffic safety campaign indicate that drivers still need to buckle up and drive within posted speed limits.

Of the 257 citations issued during this three week traffic safety campaign, 27 were for seat belt violations and 92 were for speeding.

The Sheriff's Office, along with officers from the Reno Police Department, Sparks Police Department and Nevada Highway Patrol conducted the "Click it or Ticket" campaign from May 16 through June 1, 2016. The following results for this campaign are from the Sheriff's Office portion of this campaign only.

Sheriff's Office patrol staff assigned to this "Click it or Ticket" campaign initiated a total of 174 traffic stops. Although a driver may be stopped for one violation, several other violations may be observed during the subsequent investigation making it possible that a driver may be issued citations for numerous violations.

The total number of violations cited and warnings issued by the Sheriff's Office during this event was 257:

92 speeding violations
27 seat belt violations
16 cell phone use
2 running a red light
1 DUI arrest
1 drug arrest
1 reckless driving
13 motor vehicle registration violations
20 failure to show proof of insurance
14 driver's license related violations
16 equipment violations
1 failure to yield
29 other citations
24 warnings

The Sheriff's Office participation in this Joining Forces campaign was made possible by grant funding received from the Nevada Department of Public Safety/Office of Traffic Safety.

Joining Forces is a multi-jurisdictional law enforcement program aimed at reducing injuries and crashes through statewide enforcement in the areas of: DUI, speed, distracted driving, seat belt and pedestrian safety.
