The Washoe County Sheriff's Office announced today that an exhaustive investigation into the 2015 shooting deaths of two Spanish Springs men has determined the shooter acted in self-defense, and in defense of his 50-year-old brother and 75-year-old father.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2015. According to investigators, residents inside a home on McLemore Court in Spanish Springs were disturbed by yelling and fighting outside their home. One of the residents, a 75-year-old man, went out the front door and shouted at three subjects across the street to quiet down and go back inside their home.

Two of the men from across the street chose to go over to the 75-year-old's residence and confront him. By that time, the elderly resident's two adult sons were also outside in the driveway. According to investigators, two of the three residents made separate phone calls to 911 asking for police assistance with what they described as two "obviously drunk" men.

The confrontation initially de-escalated and one of the sons went back inside the residence. Shortly thereafter, the father and other brother were attacked near the garage of their residence.

The second brother, age 51, heard his brother yelling for help and came back outside armed with a pistol. The 51-year-old immediately saw that both his father and brother were being attacked by the younger men. He reported that he saw that his father's head was being slammed against the concrete driveway by one subject while his brother was being pinned to the concrete driveway and punched by the other.

Believing that the lives of his father and brother were in immediate danger, the 51-year-old shot at the two subjects, resulting in their deaths. The 75-year-old father also sustained a non-life-threatening wound as a result of the shooting. The decedents were identified by the Washoe County Medical Examiner's Office as Glen Robins, age 29, and his brother Ryan Robins, age 19, both of Spanish Springs.

Forensic evidence confirmed this entire event occurred on the 75-year-old's property.

After a lengthy investigation no criminal culpability was discovered, making this a justifiable homicide per Nevada Revised Statutes.
