Sheriff's Office results for Joining Forces speed enforcement safety campaign

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office issued 131 speeding citations during a three-week, multi-agency Joining Forces traffic safety campaign held in January.

From January 5 through 21, 2016, the Sheriff's Office joined with the Reno Police Department, Sparks Police Department and Nevada Highway Patrol for speed enforcement campaign as part of ongoing efforts by Nevada law enforcement agencies to increase public safety on the roads.

The following results are only from the Washoe County Sheriff's Office portion of the campaign:

Sheriff's Office patrol staff assigned to this Joining Forces event initiated a total of 191 traffic stops. Although a driver may be stopped for one violation, several other violations may be observed during the subsequent investigation making it possible that a driver may be issued citations for numerous violations.

The total number of violations cited and warnings issued during this event was 275, these include:

131 speeding
16 cell phone use/distracted driving
31 motor vehicle registration violations
26 failure to show proof of insurance
19 driver's license related violations
4 violation for running a red light
3 vehicle equipment violations
2 failure to yield right of way
1 seat belt violations
3 other violations
39 warnings

Sheriff's Office participation in this Joining Forces speed enforcement campaign was made possible by grant funding received from the Nevada Department of Public Safety/Office of Traffic Safety.

Joining Forces is a multi-jurisdictional law enforcement program that promotes statewide enforcement in the areas of: DUI, distracted driving, seat belt, and speed and pedestrian safety. The goal of these enforcement campaigns is to save lives by increasing public awareness about the dangers of making poor choices while driving.
