Sheriff's Deputies catch suspect in Caughlin Ranch burglary string |

Washoe County Sheriff's Deputies arrested a burglary suspect in Caughlin Ranch early this morning after the suspect attempted to elude deputies who were investigating a series of home and vehicle burglaries.
At approximately 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 28, 2015, deputies responded to the area of Longknife Road and Caughlin Parkway on a report of a vehicle burglary that had just occurred. Deputies canvassed the area and identified two burglarized vehicles. Deputies also discovered that the suspect had used garage door openers to enter and burglarize the residences.
One of the deputies who was searching the area for possible suspects attempted to stop a suspicious person, later identified as Kyle Douglas Fitch, walking on Caughlin Parkway. Fitch fled.
Deputies, supported by officers and a K9 from the Reno Police Department, immediately set a perimeter. Fitch was identified and stopped as he attempted to leave the area. Deputies discovered property stolen during the burglaries in Fitch's possession and he was arrested.
Fitch, age 45 of Fernley, was booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility on multiple counts of Burglary along with one count of Possession of Stolen Property and one count of Resisting a Public officer.
There may be additional victims. Anyone living in the Caughlin Ranch area who has been the victim of a vehicle or residential burglary is asked to contact the Washoe County Sheriff's Office at (775) 785-WCSO.
Tips for Home Safety during the Holiday
- Be extra cautious about locking windows, sliders, and doors when leaving for any length of time. Keep all entrance points into your house secured while you're at home as well.
- Set indoor and outdoor lights on timers and think about doing the same with a television or radio to make it appear as if someone is home.
- Never keep gifts or valuable objects in plain view from any window. Close blinds, shutters, drapes, and curtains because if a burglar can see those items they may attempt to take them from you.
- If a person knocks at your door and you don't recognize them, don't feel obligated to open your door. Teach your children that by no means will they open the door to anyone prior to your knowledge and authorization.
In addition to home safety, the Sheriff's Office "Take ConTRoL," crime prevention campaign reminds residents of four key messages that help prevent vehicle burglaries:
C - Clean it Out: remove valuables from your vehicle
T - Take your keys with you. Never leave your car running
R - Report suspicious activity or crimes to the proper authorities as soon as possible
L - Lock your doors every time.
