The Washoe County Sheriff's deputies arrested the suspect in stolen vehicle case Wednesday night after the suspect fled from deputies and attempted to hide in a dumpster.

At approximately 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 11, 2015, a Sheriff's Office Deputy patrolling the Sun Valley area spotted a reported stolen vehicle in the area of Rampion Way and Sun Valley Boulevard. The deputy attempted to pull the suspect vehicle over when the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed travelling southbound on Sun Valley Boulevard and Clear Acre Lane.

After running a red light just north of McCarran Boulevard, and nearly colliding with other traffic in the area, the driver of the suspect vehicle lost control, crossed into oncoming traffic and finally came to a stop on the sidewalk adjacent to the northbound side of Clear Acre Lane.

The driver then fled on foot.

Deputies, assisted by officers from the Reno Police Department, quickly established a perimeter and began a search. After a short time, deputies found the suspect hiding in a dumpster behind one of the area businesses. The suspect was armed with a pellet gun designed to look like a real firearm.

The suspect, identified as Shawn Procacina, age 37, was taken into custody for charges related to possession of a stolen vehicle, resisting a police officer and a driver disobeying a peace officer endangering others.

Procacina also had an outstanding felony warrant for burglary.

Procacina is currently in custody at the Washoe County Detention Facility.
