The Washoe County Sheriff's Office and Join Together Northern Nevada join a number of community partners to provide residents an opportunity to rid their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.

From 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. this Saturday, September 26, residents can bring unneeded prescription drugs (in the original containers with the names marked out), prescription liquids, pet medications and sharps to any of the following locations:

In Reno:

  • Raley's at 18144 Wedge Parkway
  • Walgreens at 10370 North McCarran Boulevard
  • Save Mart at 4995 Kietzke Lane

In Sparks:

  • CVS Pharmacy at 680 North McCarran Boulevard
  • Save Mart at 9750 Pyramid Highway

In Incline Village:

  • Raley's at 930 Tahoe Boulevard

The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

Medicines that remain in home cabinets are highly susceptible to misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends.
