Saving lives, solving crimes, providing comfort, and helping to make Washoe County a better place to live are just part of the job for the men and women associated with the Washoe County Sheriff's Office.

This week, Sheriff Chuck Allen will take time to recognize those men and women, commissioned and civilian personnel, volunteers and members of the community, who have excelled in their service to the community.

The ceremony takes place this Thursday evening, September 24, at the Robert Z. Hawkins Amphitheater in Bartley Ranch Regional Park for the 2015 Sheriff's Award Ceremony.

"From saving a life to providing comfort for a lost child, these selfless individuals did what they did because it was the right thing to do - not to win awards," Sheriff Allen said. "The awards are important however because it gives the rest of us, the community they serve and sacrifice for, an opportunity to recognize their acts and to show our thanks."

This year's awards include three Lifesaving Medals, three Bronze Medals, three Sheriff's Stars, two Meritorious Service Awards, two Distinguished Service Medals and 17 Letters of Commendation.
