The rodeo comes to Reno this week and the Washoe County Sheriff's Office is going denim to help celebrate this momentous event. Sheriff Chuck Allen announced today that he is authorizing the entire Sheriff's Office staff, including uniformed personnel, to wear cowboy boots and Wrangler denim jeans from Thursday, June 18 through Saturday, June 27 in honor of the ten-day event.
"The Sheriff's Office heritage dates back over 150 years. Cowboy style jeans are a part of our heritage and were worn by Sheriff's and Deputies long before modern day uniforms," Sheriff Allen said. "This is not just about the history of the Sheriff's Office, it's about the history of our region since the copper riveted jean was invented by a Virginia Street tailor named Jacob Davis in 1871. To celebrate that tradition, I'm authorizing all Deputies to wear cowboy style boots and Wrangler jeans along with their standard uniform shirt and attire while the rodeo is in town."
In addition to authorizing the denim, Sheriff Allen is also encouraging Sheriff's office employees to decorate their work areas with a western theme to help celebrate the week.
"The men and women of the Sheriff's Office know that this is an exciting time," Sheriff Allen said. "When you think about our history, it's fitting that the Sheriff's Office be a part of our community's celebration of the âWildest, Richest Rodeo in the West.'"
