Sheriff's Patrol Deputies cite over two dozen motorists for failing to yield to pedestrians during recent two-day Joining Forces traffic safety campaign |

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office cited 26 drivers for Failure to Yield to a Pedestrian during a recent two-day Joining Forces pedestrian safety campaign focusing on high pedestrian use areas in Reno and Sun Valley.
On February 6 and February 9 of 2015, the Sheriff's Office joined the Reno Police Department, Sparks Police Department and Nevada Highway Patrol for this high-intensity pedestrian safety campaign focusing on Kietzke Lane south of Mill Street, and the area of Sun Valley Boulevard and Gepford Parkway in Sun Valley.
The following results are from the Sheriff's Office portion of this campaign:
Sheriff's Office patrol staff assigned to this Pedestrian Safety Campaign initiated a total of 110 traffic stops. Although a driver may be stopped for one violation, several other violations may be observed during the subsequent investigation making it possible that a driver may be issued citations for numerous violations.
The total number of violations cited and warnings issued during this event was 148. In addition to the 26 citations issued for failure to yield to pedestrians, 35 citations were issued for speeding, and 34 were for distracted driving/cell phone use.

The Sheriff's Office participation in this Joining Forces campaign was made possible by grant funding received from the Nevada Department of Public Safety/Office of Traffic Safety.
Joining Forces is a multi-jurisdictional law enforcement program aimed at reducing injuries and crashes through statewide enforcement in the areas of: DUI, speed, distracted driving, seat belt and pedestrian safety. The goal of these enforcement campaigns is to save lives by increasing public awareness about the dangers of making poor choices while driving.
