Local Cybercops arrest another convicted sex offender on child pornography charges |

Joshua Quintana, age 39 of Reno, was arrested on Wednesday, January 14, 2015, on child pornography related charges following a search warrant at his residence by members of the Northern Nevada Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, which included the Washoe County Sheriff's Office, Nevada Attorney General's Office, FBI, and Homeland Security Investigations. The Regional Sex Offender Notification Unit also assisted.
Quintana is a registered sex offender for a 2001 conviction in Washoe County.
The Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force booked Quintana into the Washoe County Detention Facility on five counts of Possessing Pornography of a Person Under the Age of Sixteen, one count of Promotion of a Sexual Performance of a Minor Under the Age of Fourteen and one count of Unlawful Use of Encryption.
"This arrest is another positive step in the Task Force's effort to combat the growing problem of online child exploitation," Task Force Sergeant Dennis Carry with the Washoe County Sheriff's Office said. "Our goal is to protect children by locating and arresting predators, whom choose to harm our children by viewing, distributing, and sometimes manufacturing videos and images which often depict these children being sexually assaulted."
This arrest also represents another case where a previously convicted sex offender tried to conceal his activities online through anonymity and encryption.
"Every one of these previously convicted sex offenders found by the Task Force to be committing online child pornography crimes demonstrated a continued attraction to children," Sergeant Carry said. "They have also consistently attempted to use methods that hide their activity online or have incorporated evidence elimination programs in their crimes."
The Northern Nevada Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force is comprised of the Washoe County Sheriff's Office, Nevada Attorney General's Office, FBI, and Homeland Security Investigations. This group has the primary function to locate predators using the internet to exploit our children.
The Northern Nevada Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force has been responsible for the arrests of over 160 individuals since 2003. Their work is effectively fighting cybercrime thanks to the ongoing commitment of law enforcement, local District Attorney Offices and the United States Attorney's Office Project Safe Childhood Program.
