On September 27th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Washoe County Sheriff's Office and Join Together Northern Nevada are among several community partners/sponsors who are giving residents an opportunity to rid their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Residents can bring medications for disposal to several convenient locations:

September 27th 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

  • Raleys- 18144 Wedge Parkway, Reno
  • Save Mart- 4995 Kietzke Lane, Reno
  • Save Mart- 565 E. Prater Way, Sparks
  • Smith's - 750 South Meadows, Reno
  • Scolari's - 8165 S. Virginia St, Reno
  • Walgreens - 10370 N. McCarran Blvd., Reno
  • CVS- 5151 Sparks Blvd., Sparks

The Round-up is taking unused or expired prescription drugs in their original containers; over-the-counter pills, prescription liquids, and pet medications. We encourage the public to mark out the patient's name on the bottle prior to disposal.

The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines that remain in home cabinets are highly susceptible to misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends.

A common method of disposing unused medicines, flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash, both pose potential safety and health hazards. That's why the Washoe County Sheriff's Office, Sparks Police Department and Reno Police Department have partnered together to offer permanent prescription drug collection sites at their agencies:

Washoe County Sheriff's Office - 911 Parr Blvd., Reno

Sparks Police Department - 1701 East Prater Way, Sparks

Reno Police Department - 455 E. 2nd Street, Reno

Proper disposal of medications protect teens, children, pets and the environment.
