The Washoe County Sheriff's Office Special Operations and Criminal Investigations Division are conducting an investigation on an in-custody death from Monday, May 20, 2013 at approximately 5:00 a.m.
The Washoe County Medical Examiner's Office has confirmed that a formal identification and next of kin notification has been completed. The decedent has been positively identified as Carlos Salgado, a 24-year-old Sparks resident.
Salgado had been booked into the Washoe County Sheriff's Office Detention Facility on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at 4:04 p.m. on a misdemeanor Trespass charge and a Felony (No Bail) Probation Violation - original charge Burglary.
On Monday, May 20th at approximately 4:30 a.m., a Sheriff's Deputy observed Salgado unresponsive inside a housing unit cell. Salgado was celled alone. The Deputy entered the cell and immediately began lifesaving measures. REMSA and Reno Fire Department personnel arrived shortly thereafter and continued lifesaving measures which were unsuccessful. At approximately 5:00 a.m., Salgado was pronounced deceased. Sheriff Detectives were called in to continue the death investigation.
The Medical Examiner's Office will provide Sheriff's Detectives with a cause of death. At this time, the cause of death is pending toxicology.
