The Washoe County Sheriff's Office was contacted by a local business owner who was the victim of several thefts from the company's vending machines. A case was initiated and assigned to the Sheriff's Office All Threats All Crimes Task Force (ATAC) to investigate. During the course of the investigation, Detectives from ATAC worked closely with Detectives from the Reno Police Department who were also investigating similar thefts with related modus operandi. This became a joint investigation.
The investigation focused on the primary suspect, Robert Railey. ATAC, RPD Detectives, RPD Street Enforcement Team (SET) and Sparks Crime Suppression Unit (CSU) all began working closely together to locate Robert Railey. Robert Railey was located during the early morning hours of July 23, 2011 and has been formally charged and booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility with 34 criminal charges associated with his crime spree. Robert Railey's bail has been set at $83,548. Additional charges may be forthcoming as Robert Railey has been linked to approximately 140 burglaries of this nature throughout the Reno/Sparks area.
This is an excellent example of the cooperative efforts amongst law enforcement investigators in Washoe County.
