The Community Liaison
Program, working under the Patrol Administrative Services Unit,
was established in December of 1995 to provide a proactive response
to certain concerns, requests, and non-emergency calls from citizens
of Washoe County. The Community Liaison Office consists of one sergeant
and five deputies. To more efficiently allocate manpower and provide
maximum service to the community, the Sheriff's Office has divided
the unincorporated area of the County into two districts, North
and South. Two deputies (CLOs) are assigned to the North District,
one to the South District, one to Special Projects, and one to Kids
Korner and Senior Korner. The North and South CLOs attend each of
the county's Citizen Advisory Board monthly meetings where they
are able to interact with local residents. The deputies become personally
acquainted with residents, giving them the opportunity to become
more aware of the specific concerns and problems within the districts.
Service Requests
Each district's CLO handles
requests for service received from citizens in their area. Requests
for service cover neighborhood problems such as speeders and other
traffic-related issues, abandoned and inoperable vehicles, unlawful
dwellings, unlicensed businesses, illegal dumping, and unlawful
outdoor storage. The CLO will arrange for enforcement action, forward
the request to the proper agency, or handle the situation personally.
To submit a Request for
Service, call the Washoe County Sheriff's Office Front Desk at (775)
328-3001 or the Community Liaison Office at (775) 328-3009.
Educational/Community
Programs
The Community Liaison
Office provides educational programs to schools and youth groups
on subjects such as driver's training, gun safety, and bike safety.
The CLOs also coordinate and manage the Neighborhood Watch Program
and participate at the meetings of the Citizen Advisory Boards.
They are often invited to attend other community- and neighborhood-based
functions where they can answer questions and share information
regarding upcoming projects, crime trends, and other law enforcement
issues.
Call (775) 328-3006 to
request information about the educational programs provided by the
Community Liaison Office.
Neighborhood
Service Team
The Community Liaison
Program, in conjunction with Washoe County Code Enforcement, implemented
the Neighborhood Service Team (N.S.T.). The team consists of members
from the Sheriff's Office, Zoning Division, Health Department, Building
Department, Fire Department, Social Services, Air Quality, and additional
government agencies as needed. The N.S.T. focuses on locations that
have received repeated attention from enforcement agencies and makes
resources available to help in rectifying problem situations.
