This free training program is open to residents of Washoe County and provides a broad overview of law enforcement in Reno/Sparks and throughout Washoe County. The Truckee Meadow Citizen’s Academy training is coordinated through the Patrol Division in partnership with the Reno Police Department and Sparks Police Department.

Citizens may apply to attend the Citizen Academy through the assigned academy coordinator. After clearing a complete background check, the applicant is approved to attend the training, which is typically held in the evening for three hours.

Those attending the Truckee Meadows Citizen Academy are given instruction in such diverse topics as criminal law, traffic enforcement, jail operations, media relations, emergency vehicle operation, shooting range, FX scenarios and crime scene investigation. For a schedule call 328-8727.
