The Sheriff's Office
uses motorcycles for traffic-specific patrol duties. The Motor
Unit is responsible for enforcing traffic laws and investigating traffic
accidents that occur in the unincorporated areas of
Washoe
County
. Currently there are seven BMW and three Harley
Davidson police-package motorcycles assigned to the division.
The citizens of
Washoe
County
continue to benefit from
a significant reduction in the number and severity of accidents, due in
part to a continual citizen service referral system. Citizens with
specific traffic-related complaints should call the front desk at 328-3001
or speak to any member of the Sheriff’s Office the citizen has
contact with. A request for service form will be completed and proactive
steps will then be taken by the Motor Unit. The proactive steps may
include the posting of a mobile radar trailer which advises the drivers of
their speed or enforcement actions.
