The Washoe County Sheriff's
Office is concerned with keeping the community informed about the
operation of the Sheriff's Office. One of the ways to accomplish
this is by regularly keeping the news media, and thereby the public,
informed of events involving the Sheriff's Office and its personnel.
The Public Information Officer (P.I.O.) coordinates this by acting
as a liaison between the Sheriff's Office and media representatives.
Duties include assisting reporters assigned to cover news stories
and providing them with general information at the scene of major
incidents. Our goal is to provide timely and factual information
to the community we serve.
The P.I.O.
is available 24 hours a day to respond to the scene of major incidents.

Arrest of Reno Man for Attempted Murder

The Washoe County Sheriff Deputies responded to a call on Yukon Drive in Sun Valley early this morning which ended in an arrest of a Reno man for attempted murder.
At approximately 3:37AM, Deputies arrived on scene in the 5700 block of Yukon Drive and located a man who had been stabbed multiple times. He was transported by REMSA to Renown Medical Center with significant injuries. It was determined that the stabbing happened at a residence where the suspect’s former girlfriend was staying.
After Deputies responded they learned that a 29 year old female had been forced to leave the residence with the suspect. Deputies located the suspect vehicle traveling northbound on Highway 395 near Lemmon Valley Drive. The vehicle was stopped and the suspect was taken into custody. The female was located in the vehicle and transported by REMSA to Renown Medical Center for minor injuries. Both victims reported that the suspect had broken into the home when the attack occurred.
The suspect, Benjamin Madera-Galaviz, 33, was arrested and charged with Attempted Murder, Battery with a Deadly Weapon, Kidnapping, and Burglary. His bail is set at $188,000.
