WCSO Honor Guard History
The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard was first established in the late 1970’s. At that time a Deputy was selected at random and he changed into a white shirt and attended funerals. As time passed the Honor Guard progressed into a well-trained and defined unit of dedicated professionals.
The Unit now participates in a wide variety of Honor Guard details such as color guards and flag presentation ceremonies for numerous local and state functions, and of course conducts all aspects of law enforcement funerals.
The Honor Guard also represents the Sheriff’s Office as well as our community during the National Law Enforcement Memorial ceremonies in Washington D.C. each year, which recognizes the ultimate sacrifices made by law enforcement personnel around our country.
