Captain Wayne
Yarbrough
Captain Wayne Yarbrough
is a 19 year veteran of the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office. He
is a graduate of the Senior Management Institute of Police (SMIP)
at Boston College and the FBI Southwest Command College. Captain
Yarbrough has experience in Detention, Training, Regional Training
Academy, Patrol and Detectives. He was promoted to Sergeant
in 1998 and was stationed in Incline until being assigned to Detectives
to oversee the “Crimes against Children” and “Crimes
against Property” units in 2000. He was promoted to Lieutenant
in 2002.
The Washoe County Sheriff's
Office Detective Division has a staff of 28 commissioned officers
and 4 civilians. Detectives are assigned to specialized units including
Crimes vs. Persons, Crimes vs. Property, Crimes vs. Juveniles, and
the Incline Village Substation. One detective is assigned to the
Reno Police Department's Repeat Offender Program and Sex Offender
Unit. Detectives are also involved with other multi-agency units
such as the Street Crimes Unit and the DEA Drug Interdiction Task
Force
Detectives investigate
all felony and some of the gross misdemeanor violations committed
within the unincorporated area of Washoe County. Investigations
are done in a manner that ensures the constitutional rights of all
individuals. Detectives investigate, arrest, and assist in the prosecution
of those who commit crimes against the citizens of Washoe County.
The Detective Division
also has a Victim's Advocate whose primary goal is to assist victims
of crime with the judicial process. This includes introducing the
victim to services already established within the judicial system,
services and programs within the community, and assisting with other
matters related to the criminal case.
