Captain David Nikoley
Captain David Nikoley was born and raised in Nevada and is a second generation law enforcement officer in Washoe County. He graduated from Sparks High School in 1983.
Capt Nikoley began his service with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office in 1987. His career includes experience in Detention, Internal Affairs, Patrol, and Detectives. As a sergeant in Detectives, he oversaw the “Crimes against Children” and “Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force”. During a recently reorganization of the Operations Bureau, he was assigned responsibility for the organization and implementation of a new division: Special Operations Division and All Threats All Crimes Unit.
Captain Nikoley is active in community activities including Sierra Youth Football League and Crisis Call Center. He has attended Yuba College, University of Nevada, Reno and Truckee Meadows Community College.
The Washoe County Sheriff's Office Detective Division has a staff of 26 commissioned officers and 4 civilians. Detectives are assigned to two specialized units which include Crimes vs. Persons and Crimes vs. Property. The Detective Division has one detective assigned to the Reno Police Department's Sex Offender Unit, one detective assigned to the FBI’s Home Land Security Task Force and the two detectives are assigned to the DEA Drug Interdiction Task Force.
Detectives investigate all felony and some of the gross misdemeanor violations committed within the unincorporated area of Washoe County. Investigations are done in a manner that ensures the constitutional rights of all individuals. Detectives investigate, arrest, and assist in the prosecution of those who commit crimes against the citizens of Washoe County.
The Detective Division also has a Victim's Advocate whose primary goal is to assist victims of crime with the judicial process. This includes introducing the victim to services already established within the judicial system, services and programs within the community, and assisting with other matters related to the criminal case.
