The Crimes vs. Property Unit is comprised of one Sergeant and twelve detectives whose main function is to conduct follow-up criminal investigations and prepare cases for prosecution of the violator(s). Crimes investigated by this unit include residential and commercial burglaries, auto theft and all other types of theft, check crimes, forgery, credit card crimes, embezzlement, and vandalism.

The unit has eight detectives who work directly out of the Sheriff's Office located in Reno. While four of these detectives handle all property crimes in the Reno area, four are assigned in specialized positions consisting of financial crimes and auto theft.

The financial crimes detective is tasked with the responsibility of investigating all reported "white collar" crimes and cases involving identity theft, forgery, embezzlement, credit card crimes and computer crimes. This detective works with the surrounding agencies in an effort to solve and reduce these types of crimes. The auto theft detective is tasked with the responsibility of investigating all reported vehicle thefts and assisting outside agencies in the recovery of stolen vehicles in the Washoe County area.

One detective is assigned to a specialized unit involved with the Reno Police Department's Repeat Offender Section.

The Crimes vs. Property Unit has one detective assigned to Incline Village, which is located in the Lake Tahoe area. They handle all property crimes in this area.
