The Washoe County Sheriff's
Office is concerned with keeping the community informed about the
operation of the Sheriff's Office. One of the ways to accomplish
this is by regularly keeping the news media, and thereby the public,
informed of events involving the Sheriff's Office and its personnel.
The Public Information Officer (P.I.O.) coordinates this by acting
as a liaison between the Sheriff's Office and media representatives.
Duties include assisting reporters assigned to cover news stories
and providing them with general information at the scene of major
incidents. Our goal is to provide timely and factual information
to the community we serve.
The P.I.O.
is available 24 hours a day to respond to the scene of major incidents.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, in a continuing effort to provide the highest level of quality service to our community, has actively pursued additional funding to assist the agency in these difficult economic times. The Nevada Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety has awarded the Sheriff’s Office a total of $48,000 in grant funding for the Data Driven Approaches to Crime and Traffic Safety (DDACTS) initiatives.
The overall goal of DDACTS is to reduce social harms in neighborhoods that have been identified through historical data analysis as having higher than normal trends of crime or vehicle crashes. By having a high visibility of law enforcement in these neighborhoods for a sustained period, we hope to deter traffic violations and criminal activity.
“This grant funded opportunity made available through the Office of Traffic Safety provides the assistance necessary to deploy the maximum amount of resources during these events” said Sergeant Spratley of the Sheriff’s Office, Research and Development Unit. “Traffic safety is a huge priority for Sheriff Haley and the residents in our community. Having the appropriate number of deputies on these DDACTS deployment efforts is imperative to successful criminal deterrence and also strengthens our relationship with our citizens” Spratley added.
DDACTS is a law enforcement policing model developed through the collaborative effort between the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance and the National Institute of Justice.
