The Washoe County Honorary Sheriff’s Deputies Association supports the mission and goals of the Washoe County Sheriff’s Department.
Contributions made in 2008
$10,000.00 to purchase 450 trauma and HazMat safety kits for distribution to all patrol and search and rescue units;
$8,413.00 for purchase of the flagpole and renovation of the flagpole plaza at the Regional Public Safety and Training Center;
$10,000.00 annually for the on-going purchase of newborn baby DNA identification kits for distribution by Renown Medical Center and St. Mary’s Hospital;
$2,100.00 for the purchase of 2 new dry suits for use by the Hasty Team in cold water rescue and recovery efforts;
$10,000.00 for the purchase of an underwater sonar and camera to locate and retrieve drowning victims;
$30,000.00 over the past four years to cover the stipend for sending four command staff member to the Harvard Senior Management Institute Program;
$7,500.00 for computer and audio-visual hardware and software to expand our in-service training capacity;
$8,000.00 for a Barrett .50 caliber rifle and optics;
$16,000.00 to replace the Incline Village Lake Tahoe Substation water jet skis;
$2,500.00 to the family of Deputy Wiberg to cover the expenses to the Wiberg family to go to Washington, D.C. for Deputy Wiberg’s enshrinement ceremonies;
$2,750.00 to the Washoe County Honor Guard to cover the expenses for the Honor Guard to go to Washington, D.C. for the enshrinement ceremonies;
$1,000.00 to partially defray the cost of two deputies to participate in the East Coast bicycle run held as part of the ceremonies honoring Deputy Wiberg’s sacrifice;
$3,000.00 to send 10 command staff members to advanced labor and employment law training;
$4,000.00 for 4 staff members to attend intensive language instruction in Monterey, California;
$970.00 to purchase a multi-language translator to use in booking and in the field;
$15,000.00 to purchase body armor for the S.W.A.T. Unit.
$1,200.00 to purchase a voice synthesizer for use by the Internet Crimes Against Children Unit.
$50,000 to fund the Shop With The Sheriff event. The Honorary Deputies treat 250 underpriviledged children to $150 to purchase Christmas presents as well as an additional $50 food gift card to each family.
