Calling 911 - What you need to know |
1. Be Aware and Alert -
- Pay attention to your surroundings at all times.
- When walking alone, do NOT distract yourself by talking on the phone or listening to an Ipod.
2. Look Confident –
- Make eye contact with people you encounter.
- If you need to carry a bag or purse, use a fanny pack, backpack or other type that enables you to keep your hands free.
3. When In Public, Stay in Groups –
- There is strength in numbers. An assailant is much less likely to assault someone with others present.
4. Trust your Instincts –
- If something doesn’t feel right, do what you need to do to be safe.
- If you ever feel uncomfortable just leave - don’t worry about hurting someone’s feelings. You can always explain your actions later
5. Develop a Survival Mindset –
- Preparation is the key. When going through your daily life, think of what you would do if confronted with a dangerous situation, and prepare yourself.
- Take a class in self defense if you are unsure of what to do in a dangerous situation.
