The breath alcohol unit is responsible for
the training and certification of law enforcement personnel in the use of
approved evidentiary breath testing instruments. The unit is also responsible
for the calibration, maintenance, and repair of all evidentiary breath
alcohol instruments used in northern
Nevada
.
Breath Alcohol Course Schedule
The
Breath Alcohol Section presents the following courses:
COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:
INTOXILYZER 5000 CERTIFICATION COURSE
The initial certification for the Intoxilyzer 5000 is a 4-hour POST certified class.
Initial certificate is valid for 3 years from date of course. If the
student's certification has been expired for more than 6 months, the student
must attend an entire 4-hour certification class to get re-certified as an
operator.
INTOXILYZER 5000 RE-CERTIFICATION COURSE
Students who have been certified before
and whose certification has not been expired for more than 6 months can
attend a 2-hour POST certified re-certification class.
PBT OPERATOR COURSE
Students who attend this course will be
instructed in the proper use of Preliminary Breath Testing Instruments (PBT's), namely the CMI SD-2 and SD-5. Instruction on the
use of other PBT models can be presented if prior arrangements are made with
the course instructor.
PBT INSTRUCTOR COURSE
Please Note: It is mandatory that students
who attend this course are currently certified as an operator of the Intoxilyzer 5000 Evidential Breath Testing Instrument.
Students who attend this course will be
trained in the calibration of Preliminary Breath Testing Instruments (PBTs) currently in use in
Northern Nevada
, including the CMI SD-2 and SD-5. Additional PBT
models can be presented if prior arrangements are made with the course
instructor. Students will also be trained to instruct other officers in the
proper use of the PBT. Typically, there are only 1-2 PBT Instructors per
agency. Although this course has no re-certification requirement,
previously-certified PBT Instructors are encouraged to attend this class as a
refresher course on the calibration and proper use of the PBT. Please bring
at least one PBT to class to calibrate
