The Breath Alcohol Section presents the following courses:

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:

INTOXILYZER 5000 CERTIFICATION COURSE

The initial certification for the Intoxilyzer 5000 is a 4-hour POST certified class. Initial certificate is valid for 3 years from date of course. If the student's certification has been expired for more than 6 months, the student must attend an entire 4-hour certification class to get re-certified as an operator.

INTOXILYZER 5000 RE-CERTIFICATION COURSE

Students who have been certified before and whose certification has not been expired for more than 6 months can attend a 2-hour POST certified re-certification class.

PBT OPERATOR COURSE

Students who attend this course will be instructed in the proper use of Preliminary Breath Testing Instruments (PBT's), namely the CMI SD-2 and SD-5. Instruction on the use of other PBT models can be presented if prior arrangements are made with the course instructor.

PBT INSTRUCTOR COURSE

Please Note: It is mandatory that students who attend this course are currently certified as an operator of the Intoxilyzer 5000 Evidential Breath Testing Instrument.

Students who attend this course will be trained in the calibration of Preliminary Breath Testing Instruments (PBTs) currently in use in Northern Nevada, including the CMI SD-2 and SD-5. Additional PBT models can be presented if prior arrangements are made with the course instructor. Students will also be trained to instruct other officers in the proper use of the PBT. Typically, there are only 1-2 PBT Instructors per agency. Although this course has no re-certification requirement, previously-certified PBT Instructors are encouraged to attend this class as a refresher course on the calibration and proper use of the PBT. Please bring at least one PBT to class to calibrate
