Bill Education Benefits
Recruits who are eligible
for veteran’s benefits should call 775-673-7045. It is imperative
that the Veterans Program is contacted in advance of the Academy
start date. Do not wait until classes begin.
Attendance
Recruits must attend
all instructional phases of the program, unless excused by the staff.
Attendance is required by state law for P.O.S.T. training.
Time-Off Requests
and Court Appearances
If, for any reason,
a recruit must be absent from class, the student must request time
off from a staff member in advance.
Performance
All recruits must maintain
the established minimum score on all exams. Recruits unable to pass
any phase of the Academy will not be allowed to continue. To qualify
for a certificate of course completion from TMCC and to be eligible
for P.O.S.T certification in the state of Nevada, recruits must
achieve acceptable levels of academic, physical fitness and practical
skill performance.
Dismissal Policy
Recruits may be asked
to voluntarily withdraw or may be dismissed for violation of any
of the Academy rules, including, but not limited to conduct, poor
preparation or neglect of studies, basic lack of academic and/or
psychomotor skills, failure to meet appearance standards, excessive
absence or tardiness, cheating or disruptive behavior.
Withdrawal Policy
Recruits who are unable
to complete an examination due to circumstances beyond their control,
such as illness, injury, family or job emergency may be issued a
grade of incomplete and allowed to attempt completion in the next
available Academy session.
Re-Admission
A student who withdraws
or is dismissed from the Academy due to an inability to maintain
a satisfactory level of academic performance or demonstrated motor
skill proficiency must wait until the next available Academy to
apply for re-admission.
Examination Process
Physical Training
Physical training is
an integral part of the Academy program and all recruits will be
required to participate and meet the minimum training standards.
Because the training standards require recruits to participate in
a variety of strenuous activities, each recruit is required to have
a physical examination and complete a medical history form prior
to being accepted into the Academy. Required standards of performance
will be reviewed within the first week of the Academy.
Physical Fitness
Requirements
The P.O.S.T. basic Academy
physical conditioning program is designed to prepare you to pass
a fitness final at the end of the Academy. The program will train
you to design your own fitness program to maintain an elevated level
of fitness for the rest of your life.
The Nevada P.O.S.T.
minimum fitness standards have been adopted by the Northern Nevada
Law Enforcement Academy. The standards require recruits to pass
the following:
Injuries or
Illness
It is the responsibility
of the recruit who becomes ill or receives an injury to report the
illness or injury to a staff member as soon as possible. The recruit
will complete the appropriate forms and be referred to an authorized
doctor or medical facility if necessary.
Uniform and
Equipment Requirements
Prior to start of the
Academy, applicants are provided with a list of all required uniforms,
equipment, and weapons. Some items are issued by the department;
but, most of the items are the responsibility of the applicants.
Applicants will be provided with a list of available vendors.
Graduation
Graduation will be held
upon completion of the Academy. Department heads, officials, friends
and relatives of the graduates are invited to attend.
