The Washoe County Sheriff's Office is concerned with keeping the community informed about the operation of the Sheriff's Office. One of the ways to accomplish this is by regularly keeping the news media, and thereby the public, informed of events involving the Sheriff's Office and its personnel. The Public Information Officer (P.I.O.) coordinates this by acting as a liaison between the Sheriff's Office and media representatives. Duties include assisting reporters assigned to cover news stories and providing them with general information at the scene of major incidents. Our goal is to provide timely and factual information to the community we serve.

The P.I.O. is available 24 hours a day to respond to the scene of major incidents.

UPDATE:   Detectives are pending charges against a Carson City man
involved in the Washoe Valley incident

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office reports that a man is currently in custody at the Carson City Jail on unrelated charges and who’s a possible suspect in the wounding of another man on Monday, June 14, 2010 in Washoe Valley.

Sheriff’s Office Detectives have determined that Matthew Schoeppler, 30, was involved in a physical altercation with the victim in the Washoe Valley area, causing a puncture wound to the victim’s chest.  Matthew Schoeppler fled the area and the victim began seeking out medical help.

Man Found Wounded In Washoe Valley

WHEN:           Monday, June 14, 2010 between 11AM-1PM      

WHERE:        Washoe Valley Area – Reno, Nevada       

VICTIM/S:       39 Year Old Caucasian Male         

SUSPECT/S: Vehicle Description – Approximately a 2001 Green Toyota Tundra Truck Bearing an Unknown Nevada License Plate – with a bed cover

Washoe County Deputies responded to a report of a man who was asking for medical assistance in Reno, Nevada.  A concerned bystander found the victim walking in the area of Bellevue Road in Washoe Valley.  The bystander told the Sheriff’s Office that the victim requested medical help due to a single puncture wound to his chest. 

At approximately 1PM, deputies arrived and met with the victim.  The victim was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center for a non-life threatening injury.  The victim was able to give a description of the vehicle, which was an approximate year; 2001 green Toyota Tundra truck with an unknown Nevada license plate with a bed cover.  The victim recalled the vehicle made an abrupt stop in the median area of Highway 395 in the Washoe Valley area.   

Detectives are currently seeking further information from the victim and are working several leads.
