The Washoe County Sheriff's
Office is concerned with keeping the community informed about the
operation of the Sheriff's Office. One of the ways to accomplish
this is by regularly keeping the news media, and thereby the public,
informed of events involving the Sheriff's Office and its personnel.
The Public Information Officer (P.I.O.) coordinates this by acting
as a liaison between the Sheriff's Office and media representatives.
Duties include assisting reporters assigned to cover news stories
and providing them with general information at the scene of major
incidents. Our goal is to provide timely and factual information
to the community we serve.
The P.I.O.
is available 24 hours a day to respond to the scene of major incidents.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office reminds residents that drugs and/or alcohol usage plays a major factor in violent crime during graduation time.
Detectives see that juveniles, both male and female, are using alcohol, illegal and prescription drugs at younger age which increase the likelihood of placing themselves in dangerous situations. Alcohol is the foremost contributing factor in sexual assault cases being investigated by the Detective Division from May to July.
The Sheriff’s Office recommends under aged persons celebrate graduation in an alcohol/drug free environment, stay close to people you trust, don’t accept food or drinks in opened containers offered by unknown people, and avoid high-risk situations.
The Sheriff’s Office encourages victims and witnesses to report violent crimes immediately. Call 911 in case of an emergency, non-emergency number 334-COPS, or secret witness at 322-4900.
