The Washoe County Sheriff's
Office is concerned with keeping the community informed about the
operation of the Sheriff's Office. One of the ways to accomplish
this is by regularly keeping the news media, and thereby the public,
informed of events involving the Sheriff's Office and its personnel.
The Public Information Officer (P.I.O.) coordinates this by acting
as a liaison between the Sheriff's Office and media representatives.
Duties include assisting reporters assigned to cover news stories
and providing them with general information at the scene of major
incidents. Our goal is to provide timely and factual information
to the community we serve.
The P.I.O.
is available 24 hours a day to respond to the scene of major incidents.

On February 9, 2010 the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a report of a sexual assault of a female student at North Valley’s High School in Golden Valley.
The victim reported that she had been forced into a restroom on school grounds and sexually assaulted by the male acquaintance.
Washoe County Sheriff Detectives followed up on the information given by the victim and witnesses and identified the male juvenile.
On February 10, 2010 at approximately 2:15PM the suspect accompanied by his father turned himself in at the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Main Station and was booked into the Jan Evans Juvenile Detention Center.
The Washoe County School District Administration and Police Department cooperated in and assisted with the investigation.
