The Washoe County Sheriff's
Office is concerned with keeping the community informed about the
operation of the Sheriff's Office. One of the ways to accomplish
this is by regularly keeping the news media, and thereby the public,
informed of events involving the Sheriff's Office and its personnel.
The Public Information Officer (P.I.O.) coordinates this by acting
as a liaison between the Sheriff's Office and media representatives.
Duties include assisting reporters assigned to cover news stories
and providing them with general information at the scene of major
incidents. Our goal is to provide timely and factual information
to the community we serve.
The P.I.O.
is available 24 hours a day to respond to the scene of major incidents.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 22, 2010
Public Viewing of Recovered Stolen Property

On July 8, 2010, Washoe County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in a “No Parking” zone in Sun Valley. Deputies arrived and found a male subject lying down inside the vehicle. After speaking with the subject and looking around the immediate area, a Deputy located several items which were later determined to have been stolen from numerous burglaries in the area.
A Washoe County Deputy placed Christopher Buttz, 18 – resident of Carson City/Bk #10-12486, under arrest for possession of stolen property. Further investigation lead to the recovery of additional stolen property from at least four residential burglaries. Detectives from Washoe County, Reno Police Department, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Carson City Sheriff’s Office, and Sparks Police Department developed information on additional suspects. Carson City Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant at one suspect’s residence, resulting in the recovery of hundreds of items, linked to burglaries in all five jurisdictions.
In an effort to identify additional victims and return the stolen property, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office is conducting a public viewing of all the items recovered.
