The Washoe County Sheriff's
Office is concerned with keeping the community informed about the
operation of the Sheriff's Office. One of the ways to accomplish
this is by regularly keeping the news media, and thereby the public,
informed of events involving the Sheriff's Office and its personnel.
The Public Information Officer (P.I.O.) coordinates this by acting
as a liaison between the Sheriff's Office and media representatives.
Duties include assisting reporters assigned to cover news stories
and providing them with general information at the scene of major
incidents. Our goal is to provide timely and factual information
to the community we serve.
The P.I.O.
is available 24 hours a day to respond to the scene of major incidents.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is working with the Neighborhood Watch groups and Sheriff’s Department Volunteers to remind residents of Spanish Springs “Lock it up for Safety.”
This Saturday evening from 9:00 am to 2:00pm, staff and volunteers will be going door to door with handouts in the hopes of speaking with as many residents as possible. The effort is focused on encouraging residents to keep doors and windows locked in their homes and vehicles, a move which is proven to be a deterrent to crime.
“Statistics show a much greater likelihood of burglary or vandalism when doors are left unlocked,” states Sheriff Mike Haley. “We are using the walk and talk approach to deliver information to residents, not only to study its effect in deterring crime, but also to strengthen our partnership with the community we serve.”
Committed to the safety and security of the public, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office launched this pilot program in Hidden Valley in September as one simple step in the effort to reduce crime and crime trends in our County. This initiative is being expanded to the rest of the community.
