The Washoe County Sheriff's
Office is concerned with keeping the community informed about the
operation of the Sheriff's Office. One of the ways to accomplish
this is by regularly keeping the news media, and thereby the public,
informed of events involving the Sheriff's Office and its personnel.
The Public Information Officer (P.I.O.) coordinates this by acting
as a liaison between the Sheriff's Office and media representatives.
Duties include assisting reporters assigned to cover news stories
and providing them with general information at the scene of major
incidents. Our goal is to provide timely and factual information
to the community we serve.
The P.I.O.
is available 24 hours a day to respond to the scene of major incidents.

Detectives Arrest Sun Valley Man for Sexual Assault

On June 21, 2010, Washoe County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call of a domestic disturbance on Midnight Court in Sun Valley. Upon the deputies arrival they learned that a male subject had armed himself with a knife and locked himself inside of a bathroom. Deputies made entry into the bathroom and discovered that the male subject had self inflicted injuries to his neck, wrist and stomach region.
Detectives were called to investigate and discovered that the male subject had allegedly sexually assaulted his 4 year old niece. The suspect, David Mosqueda, 22, resident of Sun Valley is a previously convicted sex offender.
Upon completing the investigation David Mosqueda was taken into custody and booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility on July 14, 2010 at approximately 4:10PM. He is charged with Sexual Assault of a Child under the age of 16 and Lewdness with a Child under the age of 14. Bail is set at $27,500.
